Death
Sara Parkinson Pressly, 95, widow of the Rev. Henry E, Pressly, died on April 15. Dr. Pressly had served as pastor of the Tabernacle ARP Church in Charlotte from 1950 until his retirement in 1980. Mrs. Pressly had made her home in recent years at Covenant Way Retirement Center in Due West, SC. Her father, Dr. Gilbert Gordon Parkinson, taught at Erskine Seminary for 50 years.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, April 19, at 2 p.m., at the First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, Statesville, NC. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Pressly is survived by her daughter, Margaret Rose Pressly, of Sylva, NC, and a son, Gordon Hearst Pressly of Charlotte.
New Book
Rev. Bill Fleming just received a book contract for a new book on the Psalms called Life, the Journey. It will be coming out through Evergreen Press sometime in July.

Did You Know?
Did you know that Tom Marshburn, son of Gladys Grier and Bob Marshburn, is a doctor with NASA and is on a team scheduled for launch in mid June? The late Rev. Marshburn served as longtime minister at First ARP Statesville (NC) and Doraville (GA) ARP Church. We hope to have more information on Tom in a subsequent issue of The Associate Reformed Presbyterian.
Spotted
An article by Jack C. Whytock was spotted in the April issue of the Presbyterian Record. In “The Scottish Reformers: Calvin and Knox,” he explains how one Frenchman, John Calvin, who died basically a refugee in a foreign city and was buried in an unmarked grave, came to have his name and thoughts so closely associated with Scotland; and of John Knox’s great praise of Calvin’ work. In the article, Whytock mentions six ways John Calvin’s influence spread in Scotland.
Tennessee Alabama Presbytery
The spring meeting of the presbytery was held March 20-21 at the New Albany (MS) Church.
Steve Woods, representing Birmingham Seminary, presented the work of the seminary, and its approach to theological education.
David Galletta, World Witness missionary, spoke on the work of the Mobile Theological Training Team.
• A motion was passed that the Moderator’s Special Committee on a Sexual Harassment Policy continues and prepare a document for each Session in the Presbytery. “This policy document should help in assuring consistency of practice and action within the Presbytery, provide an information base for educating both minister, members of Presbytery and lay persons, and serve as a model for local congregations in their development of personnel policies.”
• A motion carried to ordain Barney Heyward and to install him at the Lincoln ARP Church as an evangelist, in accordance with provisions of the Form of Government.
The following recommendations carried:
• That Presbytery request that Lincoln ARP Church conform to the Standards of the ARPC, especially with regard to the Session and that Presbytery appoint Roy Hulling as moderator.
• That Henry Lewis Smith be approved as stated supply at the Camden, Bethel and Prosperity Churches, and that Roger Brown be approved as stated supply for Cleveland Street (MS) ARP Church.
