- Please pray for Rea (15) and Niall (13). Both teens are going through difficult times.Thank you so much for your prayer support!
Laity in Action Conference New Dates
The Laity in Action Conference has been changed from July to September this year. The conference will be held Sept. 18 & 19 at the Bonclarken Conference Center, Flat Rock, NC. Rev. Richard D. Phillips, senior minister of Second Presbyterian Church in Greenville, SC, will speak on: “What’s So Great about Reformed Theology?” The topic will include subtopics on the Sovereignty of God, Covenant Theology, God’s Word and Justification. Rev. Phillips says he wants to emphasize the practical value of these topics and the real significance of each one.
He previously served as senior minister of First Presbyterian Church of Coral Springs, FL, and minister of preaching at Tenth Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, PA. He and his wife, Sharon, have five children: Hannah, Matthew, Jonathan, Ellie, and Lydia. He holds degrees from the University of Michigan (BA), the University of Pennsylvania (MBA), and Westminster Theological Seminary (M. Div. with first honors).
Rev. Phillips focuses his ministry on what he refers to as the “3 P’s” – preaching, praying and pastoring. Additionally, God has called him to a writing ministry and he regularly authors books and articles.
Day of Hope
Hope Chapel, in Greensboro, NC, is committed to partnering with local organizations to work for social renewal. Through Project Hope, they serve church-wide on a quarterly basis, and as community groups, monthly. This Saturday, July 18, Hope Chapel will participate in the third quarterly “Day of Hope” of 2009 by sponsoring a car wash fundraiser for Ashley Tanner at 8:30 a.m. at The Filling Station (corner of Walker & Elam). Ashley is the sister of the Filling Station’s chef, and is awaiting a life-saving double lung transplant.
“Talent Show at Stinkin Creek Church”
Charlie Jones of Peculiar People in Greensboro, NC, has written a full-length play called, “Talent Show at Stinkin Creek Church.” Jones says unlike other theatrical ventures he has attempted in the past, this play, with a Christian message and a cast of 21, is filled with Christians and non-Christians. “We have used this play to establish relationships within the community and God has richly blessed us. I am asking our ARP brothers and sisters to help by supporting this play.” The play will run July 23, 24, 26 and July 31, Aug. 1 & 2. Tickets are $15 and may be reserved by calling 336-253-4254. Evening shows are at 7:30 p.m. and the two Sunday performances are matinees at 2 p.m.
