What is Synod’s Purpose?
This year, in the ARP Magazine’s Moderator’s Corner, Moderator Steve Suits will reflect on why the ARP Church should have a Synod. He begins in the Sept/Oct issue by saying, “We need to keep in mind the Presbyterian principle that the smaller is subject to the larger, the larger to the whole, and always and only under the lordship of Jesus Christ.”
Although the New Testament teaches little about general assemblies, he points to Acts 15. It tells how the church in Antioch handled a doctrinal controversy by choosing a group to go to Jerusalem, where they sought the advice of apostles and elders. “Scripturally speaking, a synod should exist for the local churches and never the local churches for the Synod,” Suits said.

Women’s Ministries’ 98th Annual Meeting
With the theme of “Reflecting Back, Journeying Forward,” Women’s Ministries has planned a time of spiritual refreshment for all who attend the annual meeting on July 23 at Bonclarken. “This is not a meeting exclusively for delegates, it’s open to everyone,” said WM President Elaine Reed.
Speakers Rosalynd Rennie, Shelia Osborne, Elizabeth Burns, Sherry Bartlett and Joanne Hamilton will challenge women to consider how God’s sovereignty spans time – past, present and future. The meeting will be held this year from 1- 4 p.m. in the Mike and Lib Patrick Conference Room in The Lodge.
Women’s study books on John will be available at the Christian Education Ministries’ ARP Bookstore in the Jean White room in Founders Hall during the Family Bible Conference.
The Annual Silver Tea will be held from 3:30-5 p.m. on July 25 at Synodical Hall – hosted by Women’s Ministries of Second Presbytery.
