Summer’s End

As summer winds down, so do the many camps and conferences scheduled at Bonclarken Conference Center in Flat Rock, NC. With school beginning this month for many students, families are now focusing on getting back into the routines and schedules of a new school year.
Reflecting on a very busy summer in the life of our denomination, we are thankful for the love and support of everyone involved in all the activities and events that took place, not only at Bonclarken, but in other places throughout our denomination as well.
Many hours of planning were spent in order to carry out successful events that included four sessions of Camp Joy; General Synod; Horizon and Quest Conferences; Appalachia Mission; Music/Drama Camp; Music Conference; Camp Bonclarken; Wales Mission; ARPWM Annual Meeting; and Family Bible Conference.
The lives of men, women and youth were touched in all of the events mentioned – with many accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. There were youth who were told about Jesus Christ for the first time. Please pray for everyone who attended one of these summer events and heard God’s Word presented by a counselor, teacher or minister.
This summer, it was evident that many in our denomination gave their time and talents to make a difference in the lives of those who are the future of the ARP Church.

14-Year-Old Paints on Chapel Wall

When Hannah Rivers of Rock Hill, SC, volunteered to help paint at Bonclarken in March, she didn’t know what it would involve. But the Northwestern High School ninth-grader stuck with it – painting a detailed ARP seal on a newly added wall in the Bonclarken Chapel vestibule. “It amazed me that she could look at a picture of the seal and draw it on a larger scale freehand,” said Hannah’s mother, Lisa Rivers.

Death of Margie Roberts
NEW ALBANY MS- Margie Lee Massengill Roberts, 83, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born May 30, 1929, in Hickory Flat to Arland Chesley Massengill and Mary Ruth Butler Massengill. She was a homemaker and a member of the New Albany Presbyterian Church.
Services were held Aug. 9, 2012, at the New Albany Presbyterian Church with Rev. Bill Everett officiating. Burial was in the Hopewell Cemetery. United Funeral Service in New Albany was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Roberts is survived by four sons, Franklin E. Roberts of Trapper Creek, Alaska; James A. Roberts of New Albany; H. Alan Roberts of Nettleton and Robin L. Roberts of Hattiesburg; three brothers, James Arland Massengill of Warner Robbins, Ga., Amos Hall Massengill of New Albany and Douglas Patton Massengill of Chicago; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rev. Alton Liddell Roberts; and sister, Mary Sue Whitehorn.
Honorary pallbearers were elders and deacons of the New Albany Presbyterian Church.
Memorials may be made to the New Albany Presbyterian Church and designated for the Christmas Benevolent Offering.
