It was with joyful anticipation and thankful hearts that First Presbyterian Church of Avon Park, FL, celebrated its 50th anniversary on Feb. 5, 2012. Attended by 170 people, the worship service included special anthems with Rev. John Rogers remembering his time there as pastor from 1979-1986. A meal followed, then Rev. Darrell Peer, pastor of Sebring (FL) ARP Church, pr sented Avon Park with a new podium with the insignia of the ARP denomination. A highlight of the celebration was a DVD presentation of the past 50 years in the life of the church. Letters from former pastors and members were read and guests were recognized, including two ladies who were among the original 21 charter members. Rev. Rogers challenged the church to continue to rely on God for guidance and strength in the next 50 years. The 50th anniversary committee chairman Nelson Crews thanked everyone for their participation.
